About Tina's Place
Fostering Recuperation, Renewal & Celebration of Families
Is there such a thing as a “healing place?” Do our physical surroundings affect us emotionally and even spiritually? Research and our own experiences say yes! So how would one create a place of healing and hope? First you would need a place that is close to nature, surrounded by beautiful oak trees to shade the cottage. Then you would infuse it with prayer and compassion. Add countless thoughtful touches to the space and you have Tina’s Place. Tina's Place was created in memory of Tina (Wardlaw) Sullivan (1973 -2011). Tina lost her battle against Stage IV melanoma, but through Tina’s Place she will never be forgotten. Tina was married and lived in Arizona. During her illness she wanted to return to her childhood state of Michigan to finish her journey. Back in Michigan, she spent as much time as she could on our deck. She said, "Everyone should be able to have a view like this at least once in his/her lifetime." To honor her wishes, Tina's Place was born.
Tina’s Place is dedicated to the support of Stage III & IV melanoma patients and is intended to be a respite from the incredibly taxing battle fought by brave warriors of all ages and their immediate family in the trenches of active treatment. Coping with late-stage melanoma makes demands on one’s body, mind and spirit as well as one’s relationships-- a struggle only those who have “been there” themselves can fully appreciate. Thus the need for healing spaces in which to recoup, reflect and renew oneself as well as celebrate life along the difficult journey!
